DEEP HOUSE

Back in high school, if you said you like deep house, the first question your mates would ask would invariably be, “But like, African Deep House, or European Deep House?”, and indeed they existed as two very distinct subgenres back in those days. Needless to say, I was always firmly in the African camp.

Much as I love techno, psychedelic trance, dubstep and synthwave, Deep House is perhaps the most honest genre of EDM. There is something of the bittersweet melancholy of everyday life here in Africa captured in the jazzy chords and syncopated plodding rhythms of deep house, and it’s spiritual successors Amapiano and Afrotech.

These are some my humble contributions to that canon.
